The Chiles–Whitted Encounter

Catalog FG-010When July 24, 1948Where Near Montgomery, Alabama

Two airline pilots describe a glowing, windowed cigar rushing past their DC-3.

Eastern Air Lines pilots Clarence Chiles and John Whitted said a wingless, cigar-shaped object with two rows of lit windows shot past their plane before dawn. A passenger saw a streak of light. The case helped push Project Sign's staff to draft their 'Estimate of the Situation.'
