The CIA's Own UFO History

Catalog FG-072When 1997Where CIA, Langley, Virginia

A CIA historian says spy planes explain many 1950s–60s sightings.

CIA historian Gerald Haines wrote 'CIA's Role in the Study of UFOs, 1947–90' for the agency's journal. He concluded that U-2 and later OXCART spy plane flights, flying higher than anyone thought possible, explained many reports, and that the Air Force sometimes gave misleading explanations to protect them.
