The Phoenix Lights
Around 8 p.m., people across Arizona saw a V-shaped arrangement of lights move slowly across the state. Around 10 p.m., a row of bright stationary lights appeared south of Phoenix and was filmed by many. Governor Fife Symington held a press conference with an aide in an alien costume, then said years later he had seen the lights himself.

The 10 p.m. lights match LUU-2 flares dropped by A-10 jets over the Barry Goldwater range. The 8 p.m. V is widely thought to be planes flying in formation, though some witnesses insist it was one solid object.
