Gimbal & GoFast
Super Hornet crews from the USS Theodore Roosevelt group recorded two infrared videos during training. In Gimbal, a dark shape appears to rotate while crew members talk excitedly. In GoFast, a small object seems to race low over the ocean. Navy pilots, including Lt. Ryan Graves of the same squadron, said they saw objects almost daily for months.
The ledger
What the record shows, what people say, and the best explanation available so far.
What's documented
- The Navy officially released both videos in April 2020.
- Pilot reports from the squadron are on record and in congressional testimony.
What's claimed
- Craft with no visible propulsion maneuvering impossibly.
Best explanation so far
Analysts including Mick West showed that Gimbal's rotation can be produced by the camera's own mechanism and glare. NASA's study team calculated that the GoFast object was at about 13,000 feet moving roughly with the wind, so the 'fast' look is parallax. The many pilot reports are a separate question.
