The RB-47 Encounter

Catalog FG-026When July 17, 1957Where Over Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas

A spy plane's crew, its electronic sensors and ground radar all tracked something for hours.

An Air Force RB-47 equipped to detect radar signals picked up an unusual signal while flying over the Gulf Coast. The crew saw a large light, ground radar tracked a target, and the signal seemed to follow the plane for about 90 minutes. The case was later studied by the Condon Committee.
