The Apollo 12 & 17 Photos in the 2026 Files

Catalog FG-044When 1969 and 1972, released May 2026Where The lunar surface

The Pentagon's first PURSUE release circled bright specks in photos taken on the Moon.

PURSUE Release 01 included NASA photographs from the Apollo 12 and Apollo 17 lunar surface missions, with enlarged insets highlighting bright spots or streaks in the black sky. One Apollo 17 image of a lunar mountain range shows three light-colored specks in a rough triangle. The release presented them as unresolved. Other material in later releases mentioned 'green orbs' during Apollo 12.

What the record shows, what people say, and the best explanation available so far.

What's documented

  • The photographs are genuine NASA images.
  • They were included and highlighted in PURSUE Release 01 (May 8, 2026).

What's claimed

  • Objects were watching the Moon landings.

Best explanation so far

No analysis has been published with the release. Specks and streaks in film photography are often dust, scratches, lens reflections or debris near the camera. The original high-resolution scans are public, so these can be checked.
