The Mexican Air Force Infrared Video
A Mexican Air Force surveillance aircraft on an anti-drug patrol recorded a group of bright lights on its infrared camera over the state of Campeche. The crew could not see them with the naked eye, and radar briefly showed targets. Mexico's Defense Ministry allowed the video to be released in May 2004, and it made international headlines as an official UFO video.

What the record shows, what people say, and the best explanation available so far.
What's documented
- The infrared video and the crew's account, released with Defense Ministry approval.
What's claimed
- Invisible craft surrounded a military aircraft.
Best explanation so far
Researchers matched the lights to gas flares burning on oil platforms in the Cantarell offshore field, far over the horizon. Infrared cameras pick up their heat even when the eye can't see them. The 'objects' kept a fixed pattern because they were fixed.
